Description

The BU-50Br-16Sb drilling swivel is designed to supply drilling fluid from the pump to the bottom of the well during rotary and turbine drilling operations while allowing the drill string to rotate. It is intended for use in temperate climatic conditions in accordance with GOST 16350-80.

A distinctive feature of the BU-50Br-16Sb swivel is the lower-mounted pressure packing assembly and suspension from the hook by means of two bails. The swivel consists of a cast steel housing with two pockets for the bails. The stem is mounted inside the housing on three ball bearings. The central bearing serves as the main support bearing and carries the weight of the drilling tool. The upper and lower bearings center the stem, while the upper bearing also absorbs axial loads resulting from the weight of the swivel and the connected non-rotating components.

The pressure (mud) tube is extended in length, with its lower end passing through the stem into the adapter cavity, where the pressure packing assembly is located. The packing is tightened by means of a pressure sleeve actuated by hinged bolts mounted on the adapter.

The housing also serves as an oil reservoir for the bearings. Oil is filled through an opening in the cover, which is sealed with a plug. The plug is equipped with a vent hole to release oil vapors generated during operation. A separate inspection plug is provided for checking the oil level. The sealing system ensures the oil reservoir remains leak-tight, prevents contamination from entering the housing, and prevents drilling fluid leakage at the joint between the mud tube and the adapter.
