Description
The APR2-VBM Well Servicing Power Tong (Automatic Tong) and the APR2-HP Well Servicing Power Tong (Automatic Tong) are designed to mechanize pipe make-up and break-out operations (the APR2-HP version is intended for operation as part of hydraulic workover units), as well as to suspend and release tubing strings during well servicing operations in temperate and cold macroclimatic regions (Region I2) in accordance with GOST 16350-80.
The power tong (automatic tong) is designed as a set of separate modules, making installation and transportation easier.
The APR2-VBM consists of the following main assemblies: rotary unit, APR wedge suspension, centralizer, counterbalance with weight, drive, and drive control unit. The APR rotary unit comprises a wedge spider housing with a worm gearbox operating in an oil bath and an APR carrier that transmits rotational torque to the pipe tong. A half-coupling of the centrifugal clutch with interchangeable flywheels is mounted on the end of the worm shaft.
The APR wedge suspension assembly consists of a guide with a ring base to which three wedges are hinged. Wedges for 60 mm and 73 mm pipes consist of a wedge body and replaceable dies. Wedges for 89 mm pipes are of one-piece construction. The wedge suspensions are equipped with synchronizing arms that ensure simultaneous engagement of all wedges when gripping the pipe. The centralizer assembly consists of a pedestal supporting the rotary unit, a retainer, and centralizer inserts. The inserts are manufactured with through diameters for 60 mm, 73 mm, and 89 mm pipes and are secured in the pedestal by the retainer. The counterbalance consists of a lever and a weight that raise and lower the wedge suspension. The APR2-VBM drive consists of an electric motor with a centrifugal clutch. The control unit includes a magnetic starter and a push-button control station connected to each other and to the electric motor by plug connectors. Rotation is transmitted from the electric motor to the rotary unit through the centrifugal clutch. The rated torque is achieved only after the electric motor reaches its full operating speed. Depending on the diameter of the pipes being made up or broken out, the corresponding flywheels are installed on the rotary unit sleeve.
The APR2-HP has the same basic design as the APR2-VBM. The APR2-HP is driven by a G15-24 hydraulic motor connected to the rotary unit worm gear by a jaw coupling. Hydraulic fluid is supplied to the motor from the workover unit (service rig). The hydraulic drive is controlled from the hydraulic system control panel of the unit. Depending on the diameter of the pipes being made up or broken out, as well as the type of operation (make-up, break-out, tightening, or loosening), the required torque of the APR2-HP is achieved by adjusting the hydraulic fluid flow rate.
