The UMK Multi-Size Manual Tong is designed for making up and breaking out tubing (TBG), drill pipe, drill collars and casing during drilling and well servicing operations.

The tong consists of a handle carrying the long and short jaws, a latch mounted on the long jaw, and a replaceable jaw that can be installed directly on the short jaw for gripping smaller-diameter pipes. Interchangeable jaws may also be mounted through one or several intermediate jaws attached to the short jaw for gripping larger-diameter pipes.

The tong is suspended from the drilling rig mast by means of a suspension assembly attached to the handle. Raising the tong to its optimum operating position is performed using the rig pneumatic hoist. Pneumatic controls may also be mounted directly on the tong handle.

Tongs rated at 10, 22 and 48 kN·m are manufactured from forged, heat-treated low-alloy steel. Tongs rated at 60, 90 and 120 kN·m are manufactured from cast, heat-treated low-alloy steel. The gripping die teeth have a surface hardness of 58–62 HRC and feature a specially designed profile geometry that minimizes pipe damage. The UMK Multi-Size Manual Tong is manufactured in accordance with the requirements of API Specification 7K.

Depending on the ambient operating temperature, the Multi-Size Manual Tong is available in two versions:

Version for operation at ambient temperatures down to -20°C.
Version for operation at ambient temperatures down to -45°C.

Depending on the handle length, the Multi-Size Manual Tong is available in three versions:

Standard handle.
Extended handle.
Short handle.

UMK 60–159 mm, 8–22 kN·m

Economical, lightweight and compact manual tongs primarily intended for making up and breaking out pipe connections in mineral exploration drilling, shallow oil wells and horizontal directional drilling (HDD) rigs.

UMK 60–273 mm, 48 kN·m

An economical, compact and lightweight universal manual tong intended for making up and breaking out tubing and drill pipe. It has no direct domestic equivalent. It combines excellent torque capacity throughout the entire gripping range with compact dimensions, low weight and a more reliable gripping mechanism than conventional domestic tongs. An ideal solution for companies providing well workover services, including operations involving drill pipe.

UMK 60–365 mm, 35–60 kN·m

A manual tong featuring a wide range of interchangeable jaws and a broader field of application. It is primarily intended for tubing and casing operations. It is an excellent alternative to UMK-1, UMK-1S, KBT, KBT-2, KMT-M, KMT, KTR 60-200 and KTMP tongs, offering an affordable imported solution compared with American and Canadian equipment. Within the 108–203 mm diameter range, it can be used not only for well servicing but also for drilling operations.

UMK 89–299 mm, 70–90 kN·m

The most reliable and one of the most widely used manual tongs in Russia (Romanian-type equivalent). It replaces stationary tongs with torque ratings up to 90 kN·m, such as KMB, KMB-M and their modifications, whose relatively large dimensions may be inconvenient in confined well workover conditions.
