- Russia has the honorary title "Honored Mechanical Engineer." In most cases, it is awarded after 15–20 years of continuous service in the industry. The award decree is signed by the President of Russia based on recommendations from a special awards commission. The badge is made of silver.
- Many people believe that mechanical engineering is limited to automobile manufacturing. In reality, vehicle production is only one segment of the industry. Machine tools, industrial equipment, nuclear reactors, spacecraft, defense systems, aviation, and power engineering all fall within the scope of mechanical engineering.
- The first mechanical engineering plant in Russia is generally considered to be Franz Byrd's enterprise in Saint Petersburg. In 1804, it began producing steam engines and later manufactured machinery for shipbuilding and railways.
